My journey to becoming a wellness advocate was a little unconventional, to say the least.
When I graduated college I had big dreams of using my degree in Global Affairs to make a positive impact in the world. I started working as a contractor in the DC/Metro area and thought I had landed my dream job. Several months later, the "glamour" of the position started to wear off and I was left with the feeling that something was missing. Years went by and that feeling never left me.
On the side, I was learning all I could about healthy living and trying to implement those best practices into my own life. Several disappointing position changes later, my creative urges led me to develop a line of workout clothing with my spouse and best friend, in the hopes that it would fill my proverbial cup and give me something to focus on outside of work.
Eventually, I had to make a choice between my stressful contractor life and my personal well-being. My anxiety levels were through the roof, and the stress and depression from feeling hopeless and trapped in a job that I no longer cared for became too much. Even though I had developed a passion for heath and wellness, my motivation to workout waned and more often than not I would "eat my feelings" with unhealthy take-out dinners. My low moods were affecting my relationship with my amazing husband and any inclination I may have had to spend time with my friends.
After several lengthy conversations, my husband (seriously, the best) told me that I wasn't trapped, and that we would work together to change my situation. I have never been more grateful for anything in my adult life. I took a risk, left my career behind, and have never looked back. The peace I found after leaving my former career was a clear indication that I made the right choice. I took some time to make a plan for the road ahead and eventually landed at the Real Balance Global Wellness Holistic Health Coach training program. The experience was inspiring and life changing, to say the least, and I came out of it with a renewed vigor to support people in reaching their own goals.
Since then, I have worked with individuals one-on-one both privately and in the workplace. I have also developed work-site wellness programming and tailored corporate lunch and learns on topics such as nutrition, movement, and stress management.
I call on my passion for holistic wellness to inspire, support, and educate others who are seeking to thrive instead of just survive. I enjoy empowering people from all walks of life to achieve their goals and discover the greatness that lies within.
